At Livet Gourmet, we are proud to promote the first-ever Moko Jumbie Talent competition at the SLYM Festival, rewarding and nurturing our cultural ambassadors while preserving Trinidad & Tobago’s rich Carnival heritage. Our mission focuses on promoting traditional art forms like Moko Jumbie and limbo, which have famously showcased our culture on platforms like Sesame Street.

The SLYM Festival—standing for Soca, Limbo, Yoga and Moko—aims to merge health with our vibrant culture, raising awareness about the importance of wellness. This year, we were thrilled to witness incredible talent, with participants as young as 9 years old reaching the semi-finals in the Moko Jumbie competition. We raised over $20,000 in cash and prizes, and we aspire to increase this amount each year with support from interest groups and government partnerships.

We are also working on a documentary to highlight the significance of investing in these art forms and advocating for their inclusion in school curricula. Moko Jumbies, in particular, require dedicated facilities for safe practice, given the risks of stilt walking.
